The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
